I’m a petite woman 5’1 weighed 125 when I got pregnant with twins. God knows how, but I made it full term. I had healthy 6lbs babies each! Of course my body is destroyed and I was wondering would insurance cover it at all? Is this always considered cosmetic or are they’re instances in which it will be covered?
Answer: Abdominal repair/insurance coverage after twins - I’m in need of an abdominal repair. Although cosmetic procedures are never covered by insurance, certain procedures related to your surgery may be covered by certain insurance carriers. Insurance may cover some of the costs of a C-section scar revision or hernia repair. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Incsurance and tummy tuck Hello and thank you for your question! Unfortunately insurance will not cover cosmetic procedures and a tummy tuck is one of them. Insurance will at times cover a panniculectomy but that is very unlikely to be what you need. Please make sure you are being evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon!

Answer: Tummy tuck Hello and thank you for your question. Unfortunately insurance will not cover this surgery. If you are an appropriate candidate for a tummy tuck, this can be done through a low and short incision, all completely below the bikini line. The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on the exterior. Your muscles can also be plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Abdominal repair/insurance coverage after twins - I’m in need of an abdominal repair. Congratulations on successfully carrying and delivering healthy twins!I have never had an "insurance" entity authorize tummy tuck surgery. In other words, insurance companies do not consider this operation medically necessary. Sometimes, however insurance companies will cover excision of lower abdominal wall skin/apron; this operation is called a panniculectomy. When the time is right, seek consultation with well experienced board certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience achieving the types of outcomes you would be pleased with. It will be important to educate yourself about the potential risks/complications associated with surgery and have a good idea of realistic expectations. Keep in mind, that it is a major operation, associated with a significant physical (and often emotional) recovery period. Having enough help/support at home for yourself and children will be important part of the planning process. Best wishes.

Answer: Tummy tuck coverage I'm sorry to say, but insurance does not cover stretched out skin or diastasis after babies. If you have a true hernia then yes, but even then it doesn't cover skin excision, and so it then becomes cosmetic. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I deal with this issue and treat moms who've suffered from the same problem on a daily basis. It's a very worthwhile procedure, and can certainly restore you back to your original form.
