I recently had a Lap Nissen Fundoplication. My diastasis is 1.5 fingers width. I’m afraid that tightening my abs will impact the Nissen Fundoplication. Is it possible to have a tummy tuck without tightening the ab muscles and still get good results since my diastasis is less than 2 finger widths apart? I do not have stretch marks or loose skin, mostly just mommy tummy with the fat pockets above and below my belly button. The pics posted was taken prior to my Nissen. Thank you in advance!!
Answer: Rectus Plication Hello,The Nissen surgery will not in anyway be affected by rectus plication. The fact you have had children makes plication a very important step in flattening your abdomen. Go visit a few ABPS certified/ASAPS member surgeons who specialize in body contouring.

Answer: Tummy tuck without muscle repair Yes, you can definitely have a tummy tuck without repairing the muscle, and I understand your concern. Based on the photos, I think you could have a really beautiful result. The muscle repair does change the tone of the abdomen (how tight it feels and looks), but the appearance with skin tightening alone will already dramatically change the contour. I love doing tummy tucks, and have done them with and without tightening the muscle, with really nice results. One side benefit of not doing the muscle repair, is there is less postoperative pain and easier recovery process, since it's the muscle tightening that gives the most soreness. Please make sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon for this type of procedure, and have a full consultation to see if you are a good candidate, and discuss all of the risks, benefits, and what you can expect during recovery and for your results.

Answer: Tummy tuck without muscle tightening after Nissen Fundoplication? Based on your photos it appears that you could have a noticeable improvement with 360 degree torso liposuction and an abdominoplasty procedure without muscle tightening. Of course muscle tightening will give more dramatic results, but it's important to not impact your Nissen.

Answer: Tummy tuck without muscle tightening after Nissen Fundoplication? It is certainly possible to have a tummy tuck with significant cosmetic improvement in a patient with your anatomy without having tightening of the underlying musculature. I would suggest that you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss the pros and cons of the various options and your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Tummy tuck You appear to be an excellent candida for a tummy tuck. You wouldn't have to have your muscles tightened if you are concerned about the effects of muscle tightening on the Nissan fudoplication, especially if your muscle laxity and/or diastasis is minimal. Please consult with a real plastic surgeon experienced in cosmetic surgeries such as abdominoplasty.Thank you.
