Is it true that you can't lay on your side and have to wear a bra once you get implants?

You can lay on your side after having implants. (maybe not in the first couple of weeks due to discomfort). You should support your breasts in a bra as much as possible to help reduce early drooping.

Following breast augmentation, you can lay on your sides. After 6 months, you can also lay on your chest. Wearing a bra will help sagging in the future. With any woman who has large breasts, the weight of either normal breast tissue or implants will cause stretching of the tissue over time. You don't have the wear the bra at all times- use at your discretion with these facts in mind.

every surgeon has a preferred type of bra that they let their patients wear after breast augmentation, as this would depend on various factors like the type of surgery performed and the size of the implant used. Many surgeons will ask you to sleep on your back during the healing process following breast augmentation. Most will allow you sleep on your side once an appropriate period of time has passed. Wearing a bra regularly is recommend whether you have implants or not. Bras help to counteract gravity and reduce the tendency for breast to sag over time.

After about 6 weeks, I cannot think of a reason not to lay on your side after gel breast implants. Although every surgeon has their own protocol after surgery, in my experience of 18 years, bra use to support the implant is usually started after the implant has settled a bit. Once the implant is in position, then I strongly recommend locking it in with a good supportive bra for 6 months. After that, I leave it up to you as to how much bra support is comfortable. Initially after surgery you will want to sleep on your back with your head elevated and a bra 24/7. Once you are healed you may sleep however you are most comfortable and wear a bra as you see fit.

Once you’ve recovered from surgery, patients are free to lie on their side, front or back if they find it comfortable. There are no restrictions on which position you adopt when lying down. If you don’t want to wear a bra, then you don’t have to. You just have to understand that the weight of the implants can accelerate the rate of sagging, which is why a bra is recommended.

I advise my patients wearing a compression bra full-time for 4 weeks after the breast implant surgery. During this time, you must avoid strenuous exercise or lifting heavy objects. It is imperative to prevent the implants from falling out of place. Best wishes.

Hi. There are certainly restrictions in terms of how you can lie down, and needing to wear a bra while you are recovering from surgery. Those will vary from one surgeon to another. But ultimately, after you have healed appropriately you may lie down and sleep any way you like. I recommend wearing a bra when gravity is working against you (when you're up and about, etc), but technically that is each patient's choice. If you have a tendency for your breasts to droop or sag, then the less you wear a bra, the quicker you can expect to have more drooping. Hope that helps.
