Prone to sinus infections due to allergies - how concerned should I be about developing capsular contracture?

I had 350 cc saline implants dual plane. I am prone to sinus infections due to allergies. How concerned should I be about developing capsular contracture? How often does it occur? I take Singulair daily for asthma/allergies.

Fortunately you have saline implants which rarely encapsulate. The other issues you have should not affect capsular contracture in any way

capsular contracture happens. In fact, every implant has a capsule form around it, its just a certain percentage develop thick capsules. There is a lot we don't know about it actually. Some think that bacteria that gets on the implant during insertion can increase the risk. Thats why we use a Keller Funnel in our practice to reduce that possibility. Our capsular contracture rate is less than 2% because we use a keller funnel as well as meticulous operating room techniques.

Once your allergies develop into a bacterial infection, some of that bacteria could go to one of your implants and develop a capsule or even a frank infection.  You do need to be on antibiotics for your infection in your sinuses and to protect your implants.  If you are just having allergies or a viral infection, you have less worry.

Having seasonal allergies and sinus infections does not mean you will develop capsular contracture.  There is much that we are still learning about the development of capsular contracture.  There are certain precautions that are taken to minimize the risk.  Keeping touching of the implant to a minimum during augmentation surgery, and using antibiotics and antibiotic solution during surgery are just a few.
