Could Restylane Silk lip injection cause permanent bumps/nodules? (Photo)

Feeling some lumpiness or bumps after lip injections is quite common, and is a temporary side effect.  Massage can be performed to help dissipate larger lumps, and if things persist, hyaluronidase can be injected to further dissipate the product.  Restylane Silk is an excellent product for filling lips, and the effects can last about 6 months.  The product does need to be injected slowly, but the results I've seen so far in my patients have been very pleasing.  I would recommend going back to see your surgeon, and he/she will certainly be able to help improve things and reassure you that the bumps will eventually resolve. 

Small bumps are a common side effect of Restylane Silk. This may be because of the swelling that results after injection. This is only temporary and should last about a week. In the meantime, you can apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. 

Hi Daniella. Restylane silk is a Hyaluronic acid based dermal filler and this type of filler naturally dissolves in the body over a period of time.  In addition, any persistent lumps and bumps of product may be dissolved quickly with a small amount of Vitrase aka:  hyaluronidase.  Being that you experienced bruising, swelling accompanies bruising which may look and feel like lumps.  If this is the case, it wouldn't be beneficial or wise to massage the areas.  Taking arnica tablets is sometimes helpful in resolving the side effects.  We recommend contacting your injector for feedback on what they prefer you do as they may want to bring you in for a check up.

It’s normal after filler injections in the lips to feel some lumps and bumps. These should resolve over the course of a few days to a week. They are NOT permanent. You can apply ice to help with swelling. If the bumps persist after a few weeks, you can visit your injector again to see about dissolving the product.

your question.Some nodules and contour irregularity can happen the first few days due to swelling.  Try to avoid massaging your lips.  You can ice your lips off and on to help with swelling and take a benadryl in the evening (as it may make you sleepy).  If bumps/nodules persist for more than 10 days, please follow up with injecting MD for evaluation.

Thank you for your question.  With proper technique, the majority of bumps or nodules will go away as these may more attributed to local swelling or bruising that should resolve.  Having said that, a large amount of any filler product will cause a lump that can be directly attributed to the filler product.  I would wait a good week and then follow up with your plastic surgeon to assess the results.

Restylane Silk is a hyaluronic filler, so any
bumps or nodules will not be permanent. Initially following
the injections, you may feels bumps in the lips-do not massage
these for the first 3 days as it may be swelling at the injection sites.
If the bumps persist after 3 days, you may massage them out. If this doesn't do
the trick, revisit your injector who may dissolve any remaining bumps using
Vitrase.

My best advice is to go back to the injector for them to evaluate the nodules.  You will want to follow up as soon as you can.  Silk is a beautiful product and complications should be lower than with thicker fillers such as Juvederm.  Always use a skilled injector that you trust and is specialized in facial plastics for best results.

At only two days following injection of Restylane Silk it is likely that any "bumps" you are noticing are related to swelling and not palpable or visible hyaluronic acid material under the skin. At this point, rest assured knowing it is likely to resolve on it's own. If you still notice an issue after about 10 days, see your plastic surgeon for an examination. Good luck!Dr. Harmych

Thank you for your question. Having some lumps after lip augmentation is common. You can massage the lumps to help resolve them. If they do not resolve your treating physician can inject hyaluronidase to help dissolve them. Restylane silk is a great product for lip augmentation and typically lasts 6 months.
