Generally, it is the plastic surgeons responsibility to supply patients with compression garments. Most manufacturers make full torso, compression garments with or without arm compression. I suggest you bring up your question to the provider who is ultimately responsible for your well-being, the outcome of your procedure, including the appropriate use of compression garments. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people realize. There are major variations in outcomes based on who you choose as your provider. Being board-certified plastic surgery with years of experience, and overall good reputation does not mean that somebody has mastered either Liposuction or fat transfer. Patients should be highly selective when it comes to choosing providers for permanent and irreversible body contouring procedures. A sufficient number of plastic surgeons, lack liposuction skills, leaving patients with sub optimal outcomes, including being disfigured. Defined the best provider I suggest patients have multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. And experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing in the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown a handful of preselected images, representing the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of an average results look like in the hands of each provider. There’s no correct number of consultations to have to find the best provider. The more consultations patients have the more likely they are to find the best provider. Considering the inconsistency with Liposuction results and how much skills and experience varies among board-certified plastic surgeons, I recommend patient start the process by having at least five in person consultations before scheduling surgery. Patience should generally be far more selective then they think necessary when it comes to choosing providers for both Liposuction and fat transfer. Upper extremity Liposuction is technically difficult, and there’s major variation and outcomes. Arm liposuction results can easily leave people disfigured, if providers like sufficient Skilling experience. Mastering this procedure is far more difficult than most people realize. There is no evidence that compression garments have any impact on final liposuction results. In the end, liposuction results are based on two variables. Patient candidacy, and provider selection. Understanding your own candidacy for the procedure, and choosing the most appropriate provider are fundamental and maximizing high-quality outcomes. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
