Would a breast lift help me achieve sensation after nerves were cut from a breast augmentation?

I had a breast aug several years ago and the nerves were cut, so I have no sensation from the nipples down to the crease. Would a breast lift fix that issue, or is the feeling gone forever?

It is unusual that patient looses sensation entirely, after brest augmentation. It may happen with periareolar scar to a certain degree? Unfortunately, additional surgery around areola will further decrease sensation of nipples. That is something to discuss with your surgeon before surgery. Hope this helps.

When a breast augmentation is perfomed is important tha sensitivity is not lost and that depends on an accurate anatomical knowledge as well as the surgical technique of the specialist performing surgery. When implants are placed in front of the muscle, the nerves are routinely cut. You should have been warned initially. There is nothing at this point that can be done. A breast lift will not correct this.

Once this is lost it is unlikely that any further surgery will restore sensation.  These nerves are too small to identify in the breast parenchyma.

Without the benefit of physical exam- and having more info- it's difficult to comment accurately. One of the risks of breast surgery - is sensation loss in the nipple. I suggest that you schedule an exam with your Surgeon and discuss it with them

Hello there, if the nerves were cut, most likely the sensation wont come back. The only cases were the sensation comes back is when the implants used were so big or the breasts were so hypertrophic that they were pulling and stretching the nerves and so when the implants were removed or the breast were reduced, my patients gained back their sensation to the nipples.

No, additional surgery, including a lift, may give even more numbness. If your sensation has not returned after one year, it will not do so. However, occasionally going down in size with the implants may put less pressure on the nerves and an a lady regains some sensation.

Unfortunately if the nerves were cut further surgery will not reestablish sensation.  Changes in sensation after an augmentation are not unusual but most will return during the first few months.  If they have not returned after one year the changes are likely permanent.
