How do surgeons ensure patient is given just the right amount of anesthesia ? No too little that patient wakes up during surgery and not too much

Anesthesiologists use several criteria to choose the correct dose for your anesthetics such as your weight, age, duration of the surgery, medication you are currently taking, and type of surgery you will be having. During your initial meeting with your anesthesiologist, he will be checking your heart, lungs, and bloodwork and will decide on the anesthetic level carefully. How to determine the right amount of anesthesia: it is really not difficult to determine the correct amount of anesthesia during rhinoplasty. An experienced anesthesiologist has multiple ways to do this. The initial amount of anesthesia is determined by patients weight. There are multiple feedbacks such as pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide, etc. to help the anesthesia allergist know the depth of anesthesia. It is very helpful when the anesthesiologist works with the surgeon regularly. Each gets to know the others technique. So for example after the initial induction most surgeons will inject local anesthesia to numb the nose. With the nose now numb the requirement for anesthesia will be much lower. If the anesthesia is too low, there are many indicators to the anesthesiologist such as an increase in pulse long before the patient actually begins to “wake up“ . rhinoplasty with the nose thoroughly injected with local anesthetic is actually a very easy anesthesia to perform and the risk of being too deep or too late is not a big issue

The surgeon usually does not determine the correct amount of anesthetic to utilize. This is the job of the anesthesiologist or anesthetist who provides and administers the anesthetic. The dosage is calculated based upon height and weight. The patient is continuously monitored for blood oxygenation levels, heart rate and rhythm, and CO2 levels, with frequent monitoring of blood pressure. A change in these parameters signals the possible beginnings of emergence long before consciousness returns.
