Nose looks bigger after trauma. Should more time be given for recovery?

Question

3 months after trauma to nose, lower part of nose looks bigger/fatter. Nose is straight, symmetrical and the shape is the same as prior to trauma. The trauma slightly deviated the septum. Could the change in size be because there is some unresolved swelling? Should more time be given given for recovery? If so, how long?

Usually most of the swelling is resolved within 3 months. However if one sustains a nasal fracture, swelling may last up to a year. Of course most of the changes will occur in the initial 6 months.

Swelling after nasal injury may require up to 12-18 months to totally resolve, although 60-80% will abate within 8 weeks or so. If there is any displacement or obstructed nasal breathing, it may be wise to seek a plastic surgeon for evaluation and discussion.
