I am at my 1 year mark post 360 liposuction. I noticed I still get itchy around my lateral thorax area when I get hot/sweat. I am still massaging my lipo areas and noticed I also get very itchy all over my whole body during massages. Is this normal to still be itchy?
Answer: Itching Mild itching may be a sign that there is still deep tissue healing that is occurring. Excessive itching would not be normal. i encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon as she/he is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Answer: Itching in lateral thorax area 1 year after liposuction. Is this normal? Hello @shannon_c, thank you for your question. It is always important to take into consideration the opinion of the specialist who performed the surgery. It depends a lot on the surgical technique and the technology used in this procedure. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.

Answer: Skin changes after liposuction Did you have liposuction of your thorax where it’s itching? It’s not uncommon for patients to experience changes in skin sensation after liposuction. This is believed to be due to incidental fat removal from sensory nerves called the myelin sheath. The nerves have to heal and this typically takes 2 to 3 months at which time skin sensation comes back to normal. Normal skin sensation is pretty much 100% the norm at six months after liposuction. I worked with a dermatologist for many years and there are a few skin things I learned during the time. What is that people who have itching issues often scratched their skin and chronic scratching of skin will by itself cause chronic itching. If you are scratching yourself then stop if you can and most likely the itching will get better on its own. Some people are hyper sensitive and can’t tolerate massage. If this is a change then consider changing any habits or seek a proper dermatologist consultation. Is unlikely related to your liposuction at this point. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

Answer: Itchiness one year after liposuction Hi and welcome to our forum!Mild irritation of the skin and soft tissues may be responsible for a degree of itchiness in the areas of treatment after liposuction. It may persist for up to 12-18 months after the procedure and is due to residual swelling and the healing process. If the itchiness is of significant amplitude to be uncomfortable, I recommend reevaluation by your plastic surgeon.Best wishes...
