I had a breast augmentation 7 months ago, I just have a habit of chewing inside my mouth which will lead to cuts sometimes. Can that lead to capsular contracture somehow. Maybe it’s a dumb question, but I just want to be sure. I’ve had no issues with my implants accept discomfort here and there. No changes in breasts either. Just wondering

Answer: Can cuts in my mouth lead to capsular contracture after a Breast Augmentation? Hello @2newbies No, cuts in your mouth con not cause capsular contracture. When a woman undergoes breast augmentation surgery, placing a prosthesis in your tissue will make the body begin to surround that prosthesis with a new tissue, it is a small film that in most cases depending on how the surgical procedure was done, how the patient heals or the scarring of the patient is, if the patient took post operative care. This capsule is not normally seen or felt, but as time passes by, some patients have an inflammatory reaction to the prosthesis, and that capsule becomes thicker and thicker and it begins to be felt and in the worst of cases it can be seen. We call this capsular contracture. I hope this shed some light. Best wishes!

Answer: Capsular contracture Dear 2newbies, capsular contracture happens. In fact, every implant has a capsule form around it, its just a certain percentage develop thick capsules. There is a lot we don't know about it actually. Some think that bacteria that gets on the implant during insertion can increase the risk. Thats why we use a Keller Funnel in our practice to reduce that possibility. Our capsular contracture rate is less than 2% because we use a keller funnel as well as meticulous operating room techniques.
