I have been diagnosed with lipoma beside my umbilical which has been causing me a lot of discomfort. My doctor has adviced that the only way to get rid of it is through surgery even though i control the pain with pain killer eg panadol extra. He also said it is a day ward surgery which means i could be discharged in a couple of hours.I am just a bit apprehensive as i have never had a surgery before. Is this a major surgery and is ok to feel this way?

Lipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur under the skin and less commonly within the muscle. They are associated with mild discomfort and a lump underneath the skin. It is always best to talk to an expert plastic surgeon to determine whether the lipoma is possibly a cyst or a tumor or hernia....
A CT Scan is the appropriate next step, and should help to differentiate this mass from some of the other possibilities.Lipomas are typically soft and non-tender so your description of a painful mass is already atypical. In view of your medical history, it is best if you are assessed in...
It would be unusual for a lipoma in the temple area to affect the size of the eye. Judging by the size of the mass in your photo, I would doubt that if it is a lipoma, that it would influence the size of your eye. If the lipoma bothers you, it could be surgically removed.
