hi. I have problem in chawing and crooked smile after botox ,now its 44 days . does massage fix it
Answer: Crooked smile after botox Caution should be exercised when seeking botox injections in the lower face. Make sure to always seek out an expert injector to avoid unnecessary complications. If botox is placed into incorrect muscles around the mouth, it can cause crooked smiles, dropped lips, and difficulty chewing. Use of too much botox, too dilute botox, or incorrect placement can lead to these symptoms. Unfortunately, massage will have no effect on this; however, this should lessen over time. Make sure to continue using the muscles and seek out an expert physician to see if anything can be done in the short term to correct an assymetries.

Answer: Smile issue after Botox I wish I could see a picture of your face showing the smile problem you have. Were your masseters treated? No, massaging the injected muscle will not help. Botox can take 3-6 months to go away in an unwanted area.HOWEVER, the way to get rid of Botox when too much has been used in a spot is to purposely TRY to move that muscle repeatedly. This typically was a problem in the forehead muscle 20 years ago, when we were instructed to use 40+ units to treat foreheads (compared to my usual 0-20 now). The over treatment of the forehead resulted in that dropped eyebrows with eyelid fullness/folding which was awful and documented well in cartoons. The botulism neurotoxin works by attaching to the acetylcholine receptors. For facial muscles, the nerve releases the acetylcholine and it drops down into receptors on the muscle, telling the muscle to contract. As enough acetylcholine comes out, the botox finally washes away. You CAN SPEED UP the removal of unwanted botox by purposely thinking... move that muscle... and at first nothing will happen, but keep doing reps of that and you can resolve the issue more quickly than just waiting.Another example of this would be the patient whose 25 units of botox in the glabella typically lasted them 4-6 months for several years in a row, then the "last" treatment only lasted 3 months. They will ask are they becoming immune. Immunity is extremely rare. What is more common though is unknowingly increased use of that muscle. I ask, "have you been a lot more stressed lately?" The answer has always been, "yes!". The stress leads to more muscle activity in those "11's" and sure enough the Botox result doesn't last as long. This is also the reason I instruct people to try to learn not to move those glabellar/frown muscles as much. A happy person will go through their Crow's treatment faster from all the smiling, and a stressed out patient, or migraine patient will got through their frown botox units faster. For you, if your masseters were injected, chew a lot more than you did before until it normalizes. Unfortunately the smile muscles are different from the masseters, and should not have been targeted in a masseter treatment. Of course, also check in with the doctor who injected you. Best regards, Marla Klein MD

Answer: Will Massage Make Botox Go Away Quicker? I’m very sorry you are experiencing unfavorable reactions to your Botox treatment. The unfortunate news is massaging will not change the longevity of the Botox; however the good news is the effects should soften soon. Botox works by disrupting the signal between the nerve and corresponding muscle, thereby relaxing the treated muscle and preventing contraction. Although the longevity of Botox can vary from patient to patient for a multitude of reasons, there have been no proven methods to make the effects last longer or subside quicker. If it has been about a month and a half since your treatment, you should notice a softening of the effects in a few weeks, as Botox generally lasts about 3-4 months. Although they may not necessarily be able to remedy your concerns, if you have not already returned to your physician to follow-up, please do so. Best of luck!
