I suggest you get a second opinion. Your pictures show breasts that are more or less the same size only lifted. I’m not sure what your discussion was like before the procedure but it’s important to have a clear understanding of what you’re hoping to achieve and review lots of before, and after pictures so that you and your surgeon are on the same page. Generally breast reduction surgery is covered by medical insurance, and that usually requires removing a significant amount of breast tissue. Typically around a pound of tissue per side. I suggest getting a copy of your medical records especially your operative report. Bring that and your before and after pictures and schedule a few second opinion in person consultations with other plastic surgeons in your community. While your breast lift looks quite good. It certainly does not look like you had a significant reduction in size which is what you claim to have wanted to achieve. Tissue removed during surgery is generally sent to the laboratory for evaluation and is usually measured by weight. This should also typically be included in the operative report. I see no reason why you couldn’t have a proper breast reduction and having had previous surgery while it does add a layer of complexity should not prevent you from having it. It would be important for another plastic surgeon to know how your first procedure was performed and for that reason, it would be a good idea to bring your operative report. Understanding how the first procedure was done, could help reduce the chance of complication from the revision operation. There are some inherent limitation to how much breast tissue can be removed safely but your pictures do not show what looks like a reduction at all. I generally encourage people to have multiple consultations before committing to having permanent irreversible body contouring procedures. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. And experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. There is no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you have the more likely you are to find the right provider for your needs. For straightforward, simple operations having two or three consultations is probably sufficient. For more complex procedures, or skill varies substantially among providers patients may want to consider having more consultations before selecting a single provider. Being board-certified and plastic surgery is a good start, but does not mean somebody has mastered any one particular operation. The breast is made of pork breast tissue surrounded by fat between the breast, tissue and skin layer. Some reduction in size can we had with Liposuction but a proper breast reduction generally removes skin, fat and tissue in order to get the status reduction necessary. In your case, since you want a significant reduction in size, Liposuction alone may be insufficient. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
