Should I be concerned about possible implant rupture caused by a bite? Under muscle, bruising. (photo)

In my opinion, it would be very surprising and rare to see a submuscular implant rupture due to a bite injury as described. I would recommend being seen by a healthcare provider if there was a break to the skin, as I would be more concerned about a skin infection. If you are still concerned about your implant, following up with a board certified plastic surgeon for a physical exam and possibly an ultrasound or an MRI would definitively rule out implant rupture.

It is unlikely that your implant would have been damaged. Implants are tested under tonnes of pressure, literally, to ensure their integrity. However, if you’re concerned you can definitely get your implants checked. An MRI or ultrasound would be the best option for silicone/cohesive gel implants. With saline, deflation is fairly quick so if you haven’t noticed anything yet they may be okay.

Hello, thank you for your question. That is very unfortunate that happened. Thank you for the work that you do. It is most likely ok based on the photo, the bite appears to be superficial however it should be assessed by your family doctor if you feel that there is a concern. Most likely wouldn't be a rupture but possible infection.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Breast implants are quite durable and are surrounded by the capsule for extra protection. If the bite did not break the skin it likely did not cause damage to your implant. Your surgeon can perform an ultrasound to check the integrity of the implant if needed.

No, your breast is covering your implant well, but you do need antibiotics to avoid an infection since human bites are heavily contaminated with bacteria.

It would be unlikely to affect an implant that is under your muscle. In our office, we would do an ultrasound to look at the surface of your implant to reassure you. We have the Ultrasound in-house.

Hi and welcome to our forum!From your photo, I note an oblique contusion / laceration of the infero-lateral breast with surrounding minimal-moderate redness.Your breast implant is most likely intact as it is in a pocket beneath the tissue of the breast (the submuscular placement doesn't extend to the infero-lateral breast). However, human bites often become infected due to the presence of oral bacteria. It may be wise to start a prophylactic antibiotic regimen and watch closely for signs of infection (increasing pain, increasing redness, increasing swelling, wound drainage, etc.). Visit your family physician for evaluation and appropriate treatment.Best wishes...
