Excision of the full thickness skin graft and direct closure of the defect would be the best option in my opinion. This may lift the tip of your nose slightly but will result in a better appearance. A skin graft is inevitably going to look different from the surrounding skin.
Better option to remove FTSG skin and cover with small flap from the nose, either V-Y or rotational flap.
It is not unusual for non-Caucasian skin types to develop hyperpigmentation in the process of healing. That is why is so important to avoid sun exposure in the first few months of healing. If this is the result of sun exposure, the darkened spot may not return. If sun has been avoided, there is a chance for improvement over time. I typically wait a full year before revising reconstructions unless they are disfiguring (causing emotional distress) or causing some kind of physical impairment. I would recommend a local flap as well for better skin match. There is still the same risk after revision for darkening of the incisions, though not the entire flap with sun exposure.
Hey there,Unfortunately, pigmentation following STSG, FTSG is quite common. Massage the grafted area well with a silicone gel-based cream twice to thrice daily for 8 weeks. Hydroquinone based skin creams may be tried but with unpredictable results. Excising and trying to cover the defect with a local flap would add to additional scarring. finally, there is no proper consensus on what modality of treatment would be appropriate for such a condition. Hope this helps.
Full thickness skin grafts are great to cover different types of skin defects on the face, however, the skin color does not always best match the area you are reconstructing. For the spot on your nose, the best option is to remove the area of dark skin and reconstruct it with skin directly adjacent to the area. This is called a local skin flap. Different designs and techniques can be used to create a local skin flap.Talk to your surgeon about the best option for a local skin flap. This will be your best option to remove the dark spot on your nose.Best of luck.
Well, it's not normal to have frank pain with splint removal, as well as not requiring "a ton of force." Yet, if a forceps was used, it may have been more uncomfortable for you but less potentially damaging to the healing tissues.Timing of splint removal is an issue that has not been discussed....
The nasal swelling is due to edema of the internal lining of the nose when crying. The external nose addressed with your rhinoplasty is not affected by tears. Best wishes. I hope you feel better.
I do not know exactly what you mean by skin irritation or exactly what was done during your procedure.. You should check with your surgeon.
Sorry to read about this issue you are having. Silicone nasal implants are not commonly used anymore by most plastic surgeons due to this risk of apparent extrusion (exposure/erosion of the graft through the skin of the nose). An exposed graft like this is basically technically infected even if...
It's unlikely you negatively impacted your results. However, if you're concerned, I recommend following up with your surgeon. Keep in mind, it's still too soon to tell what your final results will be. You need to have patience with your body as it begins to heal. The skin, bone and cartilage are...
A closed rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish straightening the crooked nose. This involves placement of all the incisions on the inside of the nose. No external incisions are required. Osteotomies placed in the nasal bones will be required to straighten them. The spreader graft composed of the...
