I am a 68 year old male with several health issues heart surgery and COPD being the major ones. My question is can diastasis be corrected through surgery as I do not want to wate a year or more to be well again

I applaud you on trying to fix the diastasis with hard work, but after no result, and especially with a physical therapist helping you, I would agree that an abdominoplasty with repair is probably your only option. I know this may be frustrating to hear, but consider it almost as a pseudo hernia...

it is unlikely that laughing will cause failure of diastasis recti repair. However, if you continue to have discomfort, then it might be best to consult your plastic surgeon and get an examination.
