I had a tummy tuck, with diastisis recti repair, along with an umbilical and ventral hernia mesh repair 8 years ago. Following the procedure, every time I do anything with my abdominal muscles, I get pain and swelling that will last up to a week or more within the diastisis recti area. I thought that the mesh from the umbilical hernia was the cause of this ongoing pain, but upon a recent exploration of my abdomen, it was found that the mesh does not go up as far as the diastisis recti. This leads me to think that the internal sutures could be causing this issue? Can permanent sutures cause pain 8 years later?
I'm 42 years old. After giving birth to my son 4.5 years ago, I was left with diastasis recti (about 1 finger width above and below belly button). I'm looking for procedures that are minimally invasive (I will say no to full tummy tucks) to repair it but my quesiton is: will repairing also improve my pelvic floor functioning? I have overactive bladder, urge and stress incontinence and very prone to constipation after my son's birth. Thank you for your time.
36f stable weight 5'2 114lbs 5cm wide DR with small umbilical hernia. Could I get away with laparoscopic repair and mini tuck vs full abdominoplasty and still have a reasonably good aesthetic outcome?
46yo female with 2 abdominal hernias and diastastis recti. I need the hernias repaired and would like to get the diastasis recti repaired as well. I went to a general surgeon and he said he could only repair the hernias and couldnt do anything for the diastasis recti. He recommended I seek out a plastic surgeon for the DR repair. In my research, Ive only seen the repair done in tandem with a tummy tuck. Is there a way to repair it with out the tummy tuck? My DR is measured 5.8cm wide.
Im 50 yr old female 30bmi. Had tt with muscle repair and I had an an impact to above my belly button. Immediately I had a hard lump and throughout the next couple of weeks I had pain, swelling, tenderness in my upper stomach. The bulging belly returned. Now below my bb is pulling apart. ISeen surgeon and we discussed mesh since I had 9cm DR and the repair failed. Is muscle repair failure very common in severe separation , is my age and visceral fat an issue? I have no doubt in my surgeons skillsbut I wonder if something is wrong with my fascia or if it will happen again? I couldnt edit my question so I will add the injury happened several months after the surgery.
had an herniorrpamy a year and a half ago. The umbilical hernia is back and the parietal hole twice the size (3 cm). I have diastasis recti (3-4 cm), a previous c-section (3 pregnancies), asthma with ongoing treatment and allergy to some materials and NAIDs. A surgeon suggest hernia mesh and not touching diastasis while the other says full abdominal wall suturing and mesh is necessary. Scared of mesh as I didn't tolerate ankle plate and I'm allergic to materials, NAIDs...thank you!
Can an abdominal wall (not a tummy tuck) be repaired after diep flap (plus mesh) surgery? Diastasis was never addressed so stomach still sticks out and diep flap didn't help. Can it be done robotically with minimal risks? Or is it just too complicated and dangerous?
35 year old male patient. I had an extended tummy tuck with muscle repair and lipo 360 just over 7 months ago. My abs hurt every day from the muscle repair. The only relief I have found is to hunch over to keep tension off my abs. I cant live like this forever. I want to feel normal again with no pain. I regret doing the muscle repair. Love having the loose skin gone, but this pain is not worth it. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain? Can I get the sutures cut loose?
I'm 35 and 9 months postpartum. I carried twins to 40 weeks. My DR measured 3cm a few months postpartum. I had an appendectomy last month and my DR now measures 3.5 4cm. My general surgeon referred me to a plastic surgeon who recommended the repair procedure. I am fit and unconcerned with the small amount of loose skin on my belly, but know that the DR repair goes tandem with a tummy tuck. I've read that that is why insurance won't cover the procedure the TT is cosmetic but if DR repair is proven to restore functionality and reduce pain, I don't understand how insurance is able to negate the entire procedure. That said, am I wrong to assume that the effectiveness of the muscle repair HAS been proven? Lots of reviews on here are positive, but most talk about how it looks. If the cosmetic portion of the procedure is significantly less important to me, is this procedure a major surgery truly worth the money, pain, and recovery time? Why would a procedure that, in theory, could restore one's body to improve function and quality of life, not covered by insurance? Unless it's not as physically beneficial as it is aesthetically beneficial?
