I recently underwent a primary rhinoplasty and am currently 9 days post-op. I know I am in the early stages of recovery, but I am worried about the bump in the bridge of my nose and the scoop/dip above the tip. They both have been present since I had my cast removed 3 days ago. Is this normal? Is this something that will straighten out over time or will it have to be surgically corrected?

Answer: Post op rhinoplasty changes As you can see from your photos during the first several weeks after your rhinoplasty the nose can look different almost on a daily basis. The swelling is limited by the cast that you wear for the first week. After that is removed, it redistributes. It is impossible to tell your final outcome until the swelling has subsided. After 6 weeks you will get a better idea of what the profile will look like but it really takes 6 months to see most of the swelling resolve. There are a small subset of patients who will have some very mild persistent swelling around the tip of the nose that can last for 1-1.5 years. So try not to worry too much and just keep following up with your surgeon as scheduled.

Answer: Bump on bridge and scoop after rhinoplasty It's far too early to predict what is swelling vs your true surgical outcome. The hump that you are noticing currently is a very common area that can have pronounced swelling as this is where skin is thinnest. Also if you had a dorsal hump removed, the bone's reaction can also contribute to excessive swelling in this area. As a result, this can make the "dip" you see, seem more pronounced than it actually is. I would recommend that if you have any questions or concerns that you contact your surgeon as he or she knows exactly what your surgery entailed. I also recommend my patients to be on a regular icing schedule after surgery, as this will help the healing process and prevent any undue swelling and eventual scarring.
