Can I keep wearing an abdominal binder after tummy tuck? Or is a different garment better? (Photos)

I generally ask my patients to wear their abdominal binders for three weeks following tummy tuck or liposuction.  At that time, I tell them that they no longer need to wear it.  Many of them look at me and ask, "Do I have to stop wearing it?"  They like the support that it provides.  Obviously, you can wear it as long as you like after the prescribed time.  Spanx might be more comfortable but, again, that is up to you.

For my patients having a tummy tuck procedure, I recommend they wear the abdominal binder we provide for the first 3 weeks post surgery, 24/7, then an additional 3 weeks at night only. After the first 6 weeks, there are no garment restrictions. I recommend discussing specific garment instructions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and congratulations on your results!  After 20 weeks your tissues have largely healed and it would be safe for you to transition to a more comfortable compression garment, such as a Spanx.  Hope this helps.

Any garment needs to be supportive and comfortable. I would run your queries past your PS and show him/her what you are planning to do before you alter plans.
