My left lower eye lid is pulling away from the inner corner of the eye after lower eyelid surgery.

Question

I am into 5th day of lower eye lid surgery. I had fat and skin removed and I am concerned about the pulling of the lid away from the eye. I dont know if its ectropion or it could be pulled away because of the tape.

Follow your surgeon's suggestions.  Some of these resolve without too much trouble.  Some require revisional surgery in order to improve.  Time will tell.  Consider posting photos so that we can provide more specific suggestions.

Problems with eyelid position such as pulling away from the eye or pulling down can occur to a variable degree after lower blepharoplasty especially during the first three weeks where healing and swelling are taking place. It occurs more commonly towards the outer corner of the eye. It is my opinion that when it happens that early then it is better to get it corrected instead of waiting. You may want to follow up with your surgeon soon.

Lower eyelid retraction, ectropion and distraction can occur in the immediate post-operative period. Fortunately, most cases will improve with time. Outside the immediate post-operative period, excessive skin removal, aggressive dissection that damages the nerve supply to the orbicularis oculi muscle ( the muscle that closes the eye), or the failure to correct laxity can result in this condition.
