I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist and if necessary, treatment. The best options for improvement of exogenous ochronosis are light peels or clear + brilliant and microneedling/prp. It may take a series of treatments. Spot treatment with pico lasers is an alternative and can be used for larger areas. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.
Ochronosis is associated with prolonged use of hydroquinone (generally greater than 3 months). Unfortunately, once you get, it can be quite difficult to treat especially with darker skin types (Fitzpatrick 4-6). You can try to various lasers but the safest and most effective would be pico-wave laser. Another option would be microneedling.Best wishes, Dr. Tam Nguyen

There are newer Q-switched lasers that are being used to help treat this problem. I cannot emphasize how important it is to seek a Board Certified Physician with experience in this area. Unfortunately, there is no clear solution to this disorder.
You have other treatment options for melasma including T. acid, Lytera and of course lasers. My laser of choice is a QSL at a low setting, I also like the Clear and Brilliant laser. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
