I had liposuction on Mons Pubis. How do I make the post-op swelling go down? How to sleep/lay?

I had liposuction down about 4 days ago. I know it's way too soon to tell any results but I'm worried that the area looks even bigger and is swollen more on one side than the other. I don't know how much fat the Dr. took off but I saw some results in my abdomen right away but not in my pubic area. This was my main area of concern. Is there a certain way I'm supposed to sit or lay so this area gets flat and fast and swelling go down? Also by looking at the picture do you think it'll be completely flat?

Dear Reader,It is definitely too soon to assess the outcome of your surgery.  Often the area that swells the most is the most dependent (or area lowest on the body) area...which in this case may be your pubis.  Give it more time and relax.  Good luck and be safe.Respectfully, John T. Yes, you have swelling which will persist 3-6 months after your procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. It looks like you needed a tummy tuck however. I suggest you speak to your physician. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. You should expect to have swelling for three to six months following liposuction. Use of a properly fitted compression garment will help decrease the length and severity of the post-operative swelling. As the swelling decreases, the contour will dramatically improve. Please follow your plastic surgeons specific advice regarding your level of physical activity. Thank you for your question. Being that you are 4 days post-op you are very swollen. As you become more active and mobile the swelling will settle at the least dependent area since we walk up-right. In your case, the mons pubis. Did your Plastic Surgeon fit you for a post-surgical garment? I find that can help greatly with post operative swelling. For patients who have this area liposuctioned, I often recommend placing a washcloth or extra pad in that area to increase the compression. Over time this should subside. If you continue to have concerns, it is always best to make an appointment with your Plastic Surgeon to go over your questions in person. Good Luck!

Swelling after liposuction can take 3-6 months, and even up to a year to fully resolve. You are very early into your recovery. A compression garment worn full time will help keep the swelling down. You are going to be more swollen in the evening after being up and about all day then you would be in the morning when you first get up. Talk to your surgeon about possible treatments or massage techniques that may help in reducing it faster. Until then, you really just have to be patient as everyone heals at different rates.

Swelling is not uncommon after liposuction, especially in the first few weeks postop. Over time, it will resolve on its own. However, low sodium diet, good hydration, and light exercise remain important to promote healing.
