I am 5'3 and 115lbs.I was diagnosed the other day by a local doctor in my area with an umbilical hernia and diastasic recti and need a full tummy tuck. The doctor also said I needed to gain 5-10lbs in a partial jokingly way.I am also a long distance runner and was thinking my running could improve with a stronger core?Since I have little fat to work with, will my results look unnatural? Can you recommend a surgeon in the Houston area that has worked with slimmer women?Thank you for your help.

Answer: Tummy tuck?? You don't need to gain weight, and conventional tummy tuck is unnecessary. Your diastasis is small. You can have modified procedure to repair hernia and tighten loose skin through short, low, hidden C-section type scar with less demanding recovery than tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Some examples of lean runners and other athletes in our tummy tuck gallery.

Answer: Tummy tuck candidate Dear laurannemontague,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
