How effective is liposuction if this is my third time seeking this surgery?

I would generally not recommend having liposuction in the same areas a third time. The effects will not be as good due to internal scar tissue from previous surgeries and lack of remaining fat cells, and there is a higher chance of unwanted side effects. It may be a good idea for you to try to make some lifestyle changes and try to lose the weight you’ve put on naturally first, and if you still want to try liposuction again after that, visit a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has experience performing liposuction and revision liposuction for a consultation to see if it’s a viable option for you.

With every treatment, you can expect some diminishing returns in terms of your results. With significant weight gain fat may reappear in an area that was treated by liposuction. Retreatment is a bit more difficult because of the scarring but still yield good results.

In general the positive impact of liposuction in the same area decreases with successive attempts and the risk for contour irregularity and asymmetry increases.  Losing the weight you gained may be the best initial step

I would agree that a third attempt at liposuction is most likely to result in disappointment, either because a noticeable change was not achieved, or worse, contour deformities or other irregularities result. 

Thank you for your question. In my experience third time lipo is most likely give contour deformities than first time and complication rates are higher than first time.

Each time liposuction is performed in an area, fewer fat cells are left remaining for removal later. In addition, just like on the skin, scar tissue forms in the subcutaneous tissues where the fat cells are and  make them more difficult to remove. Due to these effects, each subsequent liposuction in that area  removes less fat, has more trouble doing it and is more likely to do it in an irregular fashion. Typically, in my long experience, a third liposuction has a high likelihood of resulting in a dissatisfied patient due to the inability to achieve a noticeable change.There are exceptions to every rule, but it's better to assume you are the more likely, not the exception.

 The potential room for improvement greatly drops after each session of liposuction in anyone area.If liposuction is done correctly no one should need further liposuction in the same area.I would keep my expectations very low. When someone requests liposuction after a previously having liposuction their diagnosis is usually not excess subcutaneous fat but rather lose skin or muscle separation or intra-abdominal fat.  obesity is generally a result of eating incorrect amounts of food or incorrect types of food. Without controlling the diet exercise rarely leads to successful weight loss. consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
