Hello doctors ,i had a male mastopexy about 2 1/2 months ago. I am visiting florida in about 2 weeks but i need to cover the scars from the sun. How should i go about this? I am planning on keeping my shirt on but i know that UV penetrates clothing, so how should i go about covering them? I am also planning on going swimming to the beach, is there something i can use that will get wet and be good at protecting the scars from the sun? i will be in the sun for a large part of the day i believe.

Answer: How should I cover surgery scars at the beach?
Thank you for your questions. This is a very common issue after gynecomastia surgery performed through an areolar incision. Speak to your surgeon about available scar treatments whether it be steroid injection or laser treatment that can improve the appearance of the scar. Best wishes, Dr. Morrissey
Every surgeon has a different post op protocol. If you only had liposuction, you should be fine. Otherwise, you might want to back off on the chest exercise for another couple of weeks or start off with lighter weights and work your way back up slowly. Best of luck.
Each and every recovery is different so I would recommend you consult with your PS what they recommend. Normally most patients can get back into hot tubs, oceans, or pools about 4-6 weeks post surgery.
