Hi doctors. I know this sounds like a weird question, but is chin/neck lipo safe for me if I have hashimotos? What about just chin lipo? I'm wondering this bc the thyroid gland is located in the neck.. I just wanna be safe lol. Thank you
Answer: Chin / Neck Liposuction and Hashimotos As long as your thyroid is under control and there is no anatomical changes ( ie goiter etc) then you are fine. The liposuction is not performed that deep. Ensure you go to someone very experienced. Water assisted liposuction can help limit any issues in the neck. Best, Dr. Emer.

CONTACT NOW Answer: No problem with chin liposuction in a patient with thyroid disease. Liposuction of the chin and neck can be performed under local anesthesia and does not come into contact with the thyroid gland.

Answer: Neck lift and thyroiditis It's important to make sure your thyroiditis has settled down before undergoing any cosmetic surgery. it's important to get clearance from your endocrinologist or family physician first. The thyroiditis in the neck has nothing to do with nearby fat removal in the neck.

Answer: Hashimoto's disease You post a most excellent question.Keeping our bases covered and sorting out potential complications is first and foremost in cosmetic surgery. This is one of the reasons us plastic surgeons emphasize the importance of seeking care from an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. There is no substitute for the years of studying and experience gained during our years of rigorous training. As long as your Hashimoto's disease is well-controlled and your endocrinologist or internist gives their blessing, I see no reason why you could not have liposuction of your chin and the neck. While the thyroid gland is located in the neck, it lies deep in the muscle layer, and deeper treatments than liposuction are typically performed. It is appropriate at times for a surgeon to request medical clearance from the patient's internist, family practice doctor or specialist prior to elective surgery. This is simply a note stating that the patient needs no further evaluation or treatments prior to her elective surgery. This is done to maintain the highest levels of safety. It acknowledges the limitations of our scope of practice and utilizes the expertise of others.Best of luck, Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
