What might be causing my asymmetrical chin and how should I get it fixed? (photo)

In the past few years, my cleft chin has become increasingly more asymmetrical. I think my entire jaw may be longer on the side where the chin is longer, but I'm not sure. I'm also wondering if my TMJ may be a factor in to all of this. I can't afford surgery, and since I'm only 18, I'm not sure if this would be the best option but having this is incredibly embarrassing for me. I prefer the smaller side better, but if Botox is my best optio than I'll do it.

Options for resolution include: 1. The use of dermal fillers: Radiesse which is injected directly on the jaw bone is the best for this purpose. his would mean augmenting the weaker side to match the stronger side. It is a temporary solution requiring reinjection every 9-12 months. If you prefer the weaker side however, it is not the best choice for you and you may want to see a facial plastic surgeon about:2. Shaving a little bit of the chin jaw bone on the weaker side

The fetus is formed by two neural tubes (like two hot dogs side by side). These develop into the two sides of your body. Careful examination will reveal the two sides are different.  Face, hands, feet, breasts, ears,  eyes, nostrils, corner mouth, jawline, etc., all have small or large differences.  Boney asymmetry of the jawline, which is common, cannot be altered by Neurotoxins.

I think you are a great candidate for filler injection to the chin. The filler could be used to balance the asymmetry in your chin. More of the filler should be injected into the left half of your chin. My preferred filler for the chin is Juvederm Voluma although Juvederm UltraPlus, Restylane Lyft, and Radiesse could be used as well.

Everyone has some asymmetry to a degree and I can see what you mean from your photo. Botox is not the answer to your problem, rather dermal filler is your best option. Of course you could get a chin implant but this is obviously more invasive and permanent - I would at the least recommend filler first to see how the change would look and then maybe consider an implant for the future as a permanent fix. Voluma is a great option for chin enhancement and symmetry could be quite easily achieved. The procedure is quick and easy, however does need to be maintained about every 6 months or so. I would recommend an in person consult with a board-certified dermatologist to determine the best treatment plan for you.

No one is really symmetrical but sometimes it is more prominent than others. Your asymmetry cannot be completely corrected but softening the cleft in the chin will improve the overall appearance as it is accentuating the different sides

Hello Emerson59,It is very common for there to be facial asymmetry for the reasons mentioned by another responder.  This can usually be seen in brows of different heights, cheek bones that are slightly off, and in your case, a noticeable difference in the chin.  This is further exacerbated by your cleft which makes the asymmetry appear greater.  The two options for improving the symmetry here are either surgery (chin implant to augment the small side or possibly removing part of the bone on the large side) or the use of temporary fillers to augment the small side.  The surgical option is more permanent but it is a surgery.  Fillers can be nice as they are customizable and can let you see what the result would be before proceeding with a more permanent solution.  I'd recommend you consult with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who do their own injections so you can learn about the various options.I hope this helps and good luck.
