How soon after Accutane can I get Smart Lipo on my chin?

The general rule is to wait 1 year after the completion of the accutane course. That decision should be made be your surgeon. Please consult with an experienced facial plastic surgeon.

Every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. But most plastic surgeons will tell you that 6 months of waiting period should be enough. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

I would advise waiting at least 6 months after Accutane to get any type of cosmetic procedure since the medication affects all types of tissue and could hamper wound healing.

Probably best to wait at least six months after Accutane before undergoing elective cosmetic surgery in the neck. A full set of pictures are required to make a determination about how best to proceed, since liposuction only address removal of the fatty deposits above the platysma muscle. Many patients have significant fat deposits below the platysma muscle which must be removed with a neck lift and platysma-plasty. Most patients less than 50 years of age can get by with no skin removal.

Hello Changeissometimesbad,Accutane is an amazing medication for acne.  However, it can affect scar healing.  It is usually recommended to wait at least 6 months for an incisional procedure, and at least a year for a skin resurfacing procedure.  I'd recommend you consult with a facial plastic surgeon to learn about your options and help determine what and when a treatment is right for you.

Six months is probably sufficient. More than anything else you need to get an assessment in regards to what is the correct procedure. Most people who complain about a double chin especially those who say it runs in families have as their primary diagnosis a Mandible that is smaller or lacks projection. These people typically have a dental overbite. It’s often not an issue of fat distribution. That said, liposuction typically does very well in this area and even those who may do better with a chin implant can often get good results from liposuction.We do chin liposuction as office base procedures making at 2 mm incision and using a skin biopsy toolthese typically do not leave visible scars.First things first and that’s to confirm What the primary problem is then apply the correct procedure.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

this is an example that everyone keeps repeating the same mantra., that you should wait almost a year or more. however some recent studies are questioning this. the incisions are extremely small and are not under tension with Smartlipo. it is probably safe to do it 6 weeks after you stop Accutane. however no one can be positive about this. any prudent surgeon, will ask you to sign a release stating that there may be additional risk but it is probably small. the answer is no one truly knows the answer to this.david berman md

Since its initial release, clinicians have been warned not to perform elective  surgery involving the skin on a patient for 6-12 months after cessation of accutane therapy because of potential wound healing and scarring problems. Recent publications, however, have placed this notion in doubt as multiple studies have not shown conclusive evidence of a cause / effect relationship. 
I recommend that you discuss this specific issue with your prescribing physician or your plastic surgeon as there is no overall general consensus at this time.

Waiting 6 months to have surgery after Accutane is pretty standard since it can affect scar healing.  Your surgeon may want medical clearance prior to surgery from your treating physician.
