Can a 14 year old have liposuction with parental consent?

Well I'm 5'3 I weight about 230 pounds nd I need to lose weight but I can't ,Im very self conscious and I don't wanna be like this anymore if its not possible what other weight lose forms are there. PLEASE HELP!

I personally don't think liposuction is a place to start. For health reasons you should begin a weight reduction regimen. Surgery is available but this is something that should be used as a last resort.

Yes you can have liopsuction with consent but based on your post, i think weight loss is more appropriate as liposuction is not a weight loss tool and should be used for contouring/shaping genetic areas of disproportion.  Best, Dr. Emer.

There are many options you may want to consider before surgical intervention.  Managing your weight is challenging at any age.  I would not use liposuction as a means to lose weight.  I would recommend patients to enter a medical weight management program if they had weight loss goals.  We offer a weight management program for our patients and set and reach realistic goals together prior to any surgical intervention.  I would recommend asking your pediatrician for a referral to a physician who is certified in obesity medicine.

Thanks for your question.   Based on the information you've provided, a comprehensive weight loss program might be the best answer to reach your goals.   It's important to consider that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and is most effective in the long term in individuals who are at or near their ideal body weight and in those committed to a healthy lifestyle.  At age 14, you're also still in the process of significant maturation and growth.  I would recommend seeing your pediatrician and expressing your concerns. I wish I could tell you that
liposuction would provide weight loss help for you, however, it will not.  If you were to find a plastic surgeon
and gain the parental consent you legally need to have a surgical procedure, it would not yield what you are
ultimately after (weight loss and better shape).  It would yield a
redistribution of fat cells in abnormal locations that would be even more diet
resistant in the end.  I also agree that you should schedule a visit to meet with your pediatrician or primary care physician to establish healthy living habits to help with your weight loss goals.Dr. Steve Byrd
