When my patients come in from out of town I ask them to stay for three or four days depending on the sites and amount of liposuction performed.
If you were my patient, I would prefer you to stay in town for a week following surgery. That way, should there be any early complications, you are close-by and we can see you right away. Good luck!
I advise my out of town patients to stay nearby for at least 7-10 days after surgery to allow me to observe early healing and watch for possible complications. Be sure to ask your Miami Dr. for the name of a NYC plastic surgeon in case you have problems after your return. Good luck.
Thanks for the question, if possible its best to be near your surgeon at all times in case of any issues you will be able to follow up with him or her especially if you have a good relationship. For out of town patients for liposuction I typically ask them to stay in town for one week. GOOD LUCK!
I only require my liposuction patients to stay a few days after surgery, but it would make more sense for you to just do your surgery in NY. That way, in case of a rare complication, you will be able to see your doctor ASAP.
First, you should ask your doctor what he recommends, after all he is the one going to operate on you. Second, I am not sure why you would fly to Florida for surgery , when there are plenty of good surgeons in NY. The problem can be if you develop a complication so far away from your doctor.
Aren't there plastic surgeons in NYC? Seriously, I know that the fees are lower down in Florida but also that physicians are not required to maintain malpractice coverage, either so buyer beware. You should remain down there for at least 7-10 days and, if there are any issues postoperatively, expect to be flying back down there to be seen by your surgeon.
I prefer temporary use of Ace wraps until drains are removed and drainage has stopped, and most of the immediate postoperative edema is stabilized. After this, fitted compression garments are preferred; I typically recommend for 6-8 weeks, or until almost all of the edema has resolved.
