Ace bandages or compression sleeves for arm lipo?

Question

I started with ace bandages but they were so painful, I couldnt bend my arms and my hands were swollen I couldnt close them and they were turning purple! I have since switched to sleeves, which are still tight but much more bareable. Will this mess up my results?

I prefer temporary use of Ace wraps until drains are removed and drainage has stopped, and most of the immediate postoperative edema is stabilized. After this, fitted compression garments are preferred; I typically recommend for 6-8 weeks, or until almost all of the edema has resolved.

After liposuction a garment is applied to reduce swelling and improve outcome. Without a garment significant swelling will occur that will lead to more pain, discomfort and possible seroma formation. I prefer special arm sleeves that are placed right after surgery and not removed at all for the first 3 days. The sleeves are the worn continuously for total of 6 weeks. But remember every surgeon has a different routine.

There's no evidence that compressive garments have any long-term effect on the outcome from liposuction although most of us use them. Ace reps must be used carefully since they can created tourniquet effect particularly when they are too tight. Call your surgeon's office and make adjustments.

You should have some type of compression garment on after liposuction.  However, It should not be to tight. Ace wraps are a good solution, just don't wrap too tightly.

I prefer to have patients were compression garments, but they shoudl not be completely restrictive or else they are too tight.

I personally like properly fitted compression garments that go over the shoulder down to the wrist.Easier to put on and give uniform compression and avoid crease sometimes seem with ace wraps too tight
