I'm traveling to Florida from Chicago to have a breast augmentation. My coordinator said that I need someone to drive me and look after me after the surgery. She suggested a recover house. I don't want to stay at a recovery house and i don't intend to bring anyone with me. I intended to Uber to and from my hotel which is less than a mile from the facility. Is this a requirement or will i be able to do it my way?
Answer: Need someone you can trust Great question! Yes it is necessary and a requirement for someone you trust and know to take you back to your hotel or living arrangements and be with you for a minimum of 24 hours. The reason for this is general anesthesia will make you uninhibited and technically "under the influence" of medication. Often times patients have no recollection or memory for several hours after surgery. It would be irresponsible for you to leave a facility in the condition you are in, with a stranger who could potentially take advantage of you. Also most serious complications happen within 24 hours. You need someone to check in on you from time to time. It would be very dangerous not to do so.Best of luck and hope this information helps! - Dr. Roger Tsai @DrRogerTsai Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Breast augmentation recovery Yes, it's very important that a friend or relative pick you up and stay with you for the first 24 hours following your surgery. You will be drowsy from your anesthetic and you might generally feel soreness and discomfort and having someone on hand to help you is very important to your healing process. I highly recommend that you follow your surgeon's post-operative guidelines closely. Allowing your body time to properly heal is very important for your general health but also in ensuring that your final result is achieved.

Answer: Supervision after surgery Yes, I would recommend having someone you trust taking you back to where you are staying. You may be awake after anesthesia but you are still not completely normal per say. Some clients have minimal recollection of the post op period and several hours after. Best of Luck

Answer: Is it required that you need someone to pick you up after having a breast augmentation surgery? It is an absolute requirement to have a "responsible adult" accompany you on the ride from surgery and to stay with you for the first 24 hours. Complications can arise from anaesthesia and someone you trust needs to be there god forbid. Although it is uncommon, there are stories of patients getting ill or passing out in a taxi/uber and then simply being left at the side of the road so the driver wouldn't have to deal with it. I would strongly caution against trying to do it the way you are asking to. Best of luck with your procedure

Answer: Escort Yes, if you are undergoing General Anesthesia, you will need an escort. If you are NOT asked to have an escort, I would question of safety of the facility. I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable with. Finally, make sure your surgeon is a Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).Best,Dr. DesaiBeverly Hills Institute for Aesthetic Plastic SurgeryHarvard Educated, Beverly Hills & Miami Beach TrainedDouble Board-Certified, Double Fellowship-Trained Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon
