How long to wait for Facelift after PDO threads?

Normally I wait for 1-2 months after PDO placement to perform facelift surgery.  During the surgery, I will remove the PDO sutures and apply my sutures for a long lasting results. I have performed well over 3000 face and neck lift using my own technique under local anesthesia and twilight sedation and operated on many who had PDO sutures. It is not a difficult thing to do.  You need to make a consult with board certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in facial rejuvenation. 

I have many patients who have been unhappy with the results of thread lifts. Thread lifts cannot provide the 3-dimensional deep tissue repositioning that a well performed facelift can achieve. If the early tissue swelling and oedema has resolved then it should be possible to proceed with the facelift after a month or two.Best of Luck.

Generally you are OK to move forward with a facelift procedure after the inflammation and swelling from the PDO threads has gone down. It would be beneficial to be seen by a surgeon in-person to confirm before undergoing a full facelift procedure.

A personal evaluation would be necessary to give you a definitive answer, but in most circumstances a facelift could be performed 2-6 months after the PDO lift. I've performed many facelifts on patients that had a "thread" lift in the past. I usually try to remove the threads if they are permanent. PDO threads will usually have dissolved by 6 months.  It may be possible to have a facelift sooner, but this should be decided after seeing your surgeon and discussing the options. 

I would recommend waiting about one year. It usually takes one year for scar tissue to soften up, however the time frames can be variable amongst individuals. 

GB82, it is typically okay to perform a facelift once the swelling and inflammation from PDO placement has resolved.  This could be as early as 1 - 2 months after placement of the threads depending on the patient.  Evaulation by a trained face lift surgeon in person should be completed before undergoing a face lift procedure.   Best wishes, Dr. Roberts

    Thank you so much for your question! I have to give you a disclaimer, I love facelift surgery. It is hands down my favorite cosmetic proceedure. Now specifically with regards to yourself we really need some photos to give the best advice. In general if you need a surgical facelift I would recommend going for it! The PDO threads should be gone in 3-6 months. The likely will interfere little with a true surgical facelift. When doing revision facelifts I often encounter old suture from previous lifts and it’s not a major issue. 
A well done facelift by an experienced surgeon can be quite life changing. Not to sound corny but truly it often changes many of my patients entire outlook on life. With that change more minor irregularities such as eyelid asymmetries may fall into the background. Many many different surgeons offer facelift now days but at the end of the day the best way to protect yourself is to do the following: Meet your prospective surgeon, check out their facility, review their photo galleries either in the office or online and lastly if you feel the need speak to their prior patients. I always have patients willing to tell prospective patients about their experience in my care. Take these steps and you’re more likely to have a great surgeon as a great result! I hope that helps and best wishes on your upcoming proceedures!

I would recommend waiting at least six months.  Most of the threads should be dissolved and the maximum effect should have been achieved.  Thread cannot achieve what a well performed facelift can.
