Gel, Saline and Ideal are all very similar in weight and if the new Ideal implants were the same size as her gel, the difference should not be noticeable. However, if she had additional volume added, there would be a difference. It's challenging to draw conclusions from all some of the remarks and comments on forums such as this when all of the information is not available to review! My patients are loving the Ideal! In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD
hello chicagobulls23The Ideal Implant™ was recently FDA approved and is now being offered at our facility, Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery Newport Beach. Some women are not comfortable having silicone implants in their body and that was one of the reasons why the Ideal Implant was created. This implant gives a more natural feeling than traditional saline implants on the market. The unique structure of the Ideal Implant allows for a similar look and feel as silicone with the safety of saline. Find a board-certified plastic surgeon that has already performed procedure with this implant and discuss realistic goals and expectations. #candidate #options
The weight difference between the Ideal and traditional saline implants is miniscule. The weight will depend on the volume of saline used to fill the implants; thus the implants weight the same if filled with equal volumes.
I have not found that the Ideal Implants are heavier than gel. Perhaps the patient you referred to had larger implants placed which would of course be heavier.
Thank you for your question. Ideal implants are saline implants that offer a greater degree of structure and support. Because of this increased support it has less of a saline feel and more of a gel feel with the safety profile of a saline implant. They are not heavier than the traditional saline implants. Good luck.
Ideal Implants are saline implants that have internal baffles which damp the motion of the saline within the implant, creating a more natural feel. The baffles are very thin and do not add a significant amount of weight. Silicone is slightly lighter than saline. (Oil floats on water) I recall that an identical size silicone implant is about 3% lighter than saline. Bottom line: Not much difference, saline, Ideal or silicone. Silicone a tad lighter.
Ideal implants, Saline implants and silicone implants are nearly all the same weight if measured for the same volume. The Ideal implant may have felt heavier to her because saline does move freely inside the implant and silicone doesn't move within the implant itself. Hope that helps.
As you probably know, Ideal Implants are constructed with not only a silicone shell, but with an inner chamber as well as multiple baffles between the inner chamber and the outer shell. All of these constructs are made from silicone. Therefore, Ideal implants will be slightly heavier volume for volume compared to saline implants because they have a little bit extra silicone shell material from the baffles and inner shell. However, this weight difference is minimal.
Saline filled implants weight as much as they are filled regardless of manufacturer. Size for size they weight less than gel filled implants. Please consult in person with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to making treatment decsions.
The simple answer is no. Interestingly the weight between Saline, Ideal and Silicone is remarkably similar and they weigh, cc per cc, almost the same. Ideal Implants have internal baffles (kind of like a waveless waterbed) so the outside shell does not deform as easily as normal Saline. This is part of the reason Ideal Implants feel more like Gel than standard saline.

Good day! Most of the swelling should be gone few months after your surgery, but improvement may last up to a year. If the valve causes discomfort, it is best to contact your surgeon and discuss options and further instructions on aftercare. Best of luck! #RealSelf100
