I've noticed that ideal implant seems to run more narrow than other brands. I am looking at 300cc results to visualize what I might want and Ideal's diameter (270cc filled to 305) is 10.6cm. Compare this to Mentor gel 300cc which is 12.0cm, I really like many Mentor 300cc reviews I've seen. I am planning on going with ideal implant and I want to stay small, just more full (C) but I worry about the small diameter. I think my BWD is around 12cm.
Answer: Ideal implants The Ideal implant is more like a high profile allergan implant, I have not had any problems with them being too narrow on most patients. You do have a fairly wide distance between your breasts and no implant will eliminate that. Talk to your surgeon about your concerns, I think you will have a nice result with either implant. The Ideal really eliminates any rippling and feels closer to gel. Good luck, Jane

Answer: Ideal Implant Sizing Thank you for your question. If you have a base diameter of the breast of 12 cm, then a 300 cc Ideal filled to 335 ( or a 270 cc filled to 305 cc ) would be a good choice for you. Keep in mind that the shape of the implant is more projecting than a moderate plus profile Mentor Gel implant, but a 30 cc volume difference is only one ounce ( a shot glass ). I have found the results of the Ideal implant to have a better shape than most gel implants because of the structured design, which maintains its shape under the muscle. Discuss your concerns with a surgeon who is in the Ideal network, so that you know they have experience with this implant type. Good luck

Answer: The right size for you. It is very difficult to determine the exact size and shape implant you will require to best match your ideal breast image without an examination by a board certified plastic surgeon. Not just any board certified plastic surgeon, but one with many years of frequently performing breast augmentation surgery including different approaches, techniques and implant choices. This is because several measurements not to mention your breast characteristics are needed to determine the optimal implant size to obtain your goals. Without knowing these dimensions it would be difficult to make this determination. For example, the existing base width of your breast will determine, in many cases, the maximal volume per implant profile that you can accommodate. To illustrate; a 100 cc difference may make a significant difference with a narrow base width breast, but much less of a difference if you have a wide chest wall and wide breast “foot print”. Therefore, just because your friend may have a great result with let’s say a 350 cc implant to make her go from a “A” cup to a “C” cup size does not mean that you will have the same result with the same size implant. . Further simply placing implants in a bra to determine the size best for you is not always accurate as the bra often distorts the size, is dependent on the pressure the bra places plus the implant is outside your breast and not under it among other variables. Computer software morphing programs that automatically determine the best implant size can be helpful in some but not all cases (e.g. doesn’t work well in my experience with existing implants, sagging or asymmetric breasts). Using “want to be” photos however are useful if simply provided to the surgeon as I will further explain in the below link. #breastaugmentation#findingtherightsize#BA

Answer: Is IDEAL for me?? Ask Dr Ellen The IDEAL implant is a wonderful choice and I think it is best for you to get in for a consultation with a Board Certified Surgeon familiar with the product to learn more about how it may better meet your needs than a standard gel product. As you have learned, implants come in a variety of sizes with variable projection and diameter. Your pictures show breast asymmetry as well as ptosis. Your breast shape is also a bit tubular. It also looks like your chest diameter is different on each size. These factors will all impact on the technical aspects of your procedure as well as implant size.IDEAL uniquely meets your needs because the variable fill volume can adjust for your asymmetry. I would need my own measurements on you to give consideration to the optimal diameter base width. In addition, I would like to better assess how your ptosis (breast droppage) and somewhat tubular shape will effect your desire for just a breast augmentation. It is possible that an additional procedure (breast lift) would be valuable to best meet your goals. In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD
