Is it normal to feel the valve in the Ideal Implant?

Question

Hi few months ago had ideal implants through aerola incision.I can clearly feel the valve in one of my breasts so can my partner it feels like a hard lump the other breast is fine.Will this resolve over time do I need revision is this normal and should I say something to my surgeon bit disappointed as spend way more than normal for this operation by one of the most top accredited surgeons?

There is a valve centered on the outer wall of the implant which may be behind your areola.  However, it should not be noticeable.   Since you are unaware of it on the opposite breast, I would suggest you return to your surgeon for an examination.  It's possible that it could be some healing tissue, scar tissue or even a stitch.  I mention these as possibilities since you had the areola approach.  He/she will be best qualified to provide to you and explanation.Women have been very happy with Ideal and I expect that you will be as well!In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD

Good day! Most of the swelling should be gone few months after your surgery, but improvement may last up to a year. If the valve causes discomfort, it is best to contact your surgeon and discuss options and further instructions on aftercare. Best of luck! #RealSelf100

I think it is highly unlikely that you cn feel the valve in the Ideal Implant. It is very small and very smooth on the surface of the implant. The only way I could conceive being able to feel would be if the implant was placed in the subglandular position and the patient was extremely thin. if you feel any lumps it is more likely to be from your breast tissue, especially if you have a prior history of fibrcystic breasts. If the lump continues to be present for three months after the surgery, I would suggest returning to your surgeon, or another breast sugeon for an examination. An ultrasound could be gotten to identify the lump.

My office uses both standard saline filled implants and Ideal Structured implants.  Implants are generally placed in the sub-pectoral position.  I have had the rare experience of being able to feel the fill valve (with the cover seated properly) a few times in thousands of patient post-op visits, when the breast tissue was extremely thin as was the pectoral muscle.  I have not noticed this with Ideal implants, but they have only been in use for a few years.  I agree with the other surgeon's answering here, that you should see your plastic surgeon for in-person evaluation.  Other causes are possible and he or she would be in the best position to help you.
