I would like to have the tummy tuck/breast augmentation procedures once I reach my goal weight and am curious if this condition wold prevent me from being a candidate. I currently take no meds. Just deal with it as it happens. I have scars everywhere but currently only have issues with the area between my breasts. It comes and goes. Thank you in advance for your input.
Answer: Hidradenitis and mommy makeover Thank you for your question. Hidradenitis can be a frustrating problem. It should not, however, prevent you from safely undergoing tummy tuck and breast augmentation or from getting a great post-op result. I would recommend visiting with your dermatologist prior to surgery to ensure that the hidradenitis is properly under control and to potentially receive suppressive or prophylactic antibiotic therapy. Following surgery, you should continue to be monitored for issues stemming from it, and treat them accordingly. Good luck!

Answer: Mommy Makeover and Hidradenitis aem143. I appreciate your concern and ongoing issues with hidradenitis. This condition should not preclude you from mommy makeover surgery, as long as you are not having an acute flareup right before your scheduled surgery. Your plastic surgeon may consider keeping you on antibiotics for a week or so after surgery to prevent flareups from the hidradenitis during immediate recovery. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your region and discuss these issues. Good luck.

Answer: I have hidradenitis suppurativa. Could this be an issue for a tummy tuck/breast augmentation? Thanks for the question about your surgery and your condition. No, having HS is not a problem if you are well controlled and not scheduled during a flare up. The antibiotics available for perioperative use will suffice. Do use all precautions though. Smoking is contraindicated. Skin hygiene is important as is topical clindamycin for any outbreaks. If you have concerns call your plastic surgeon right away. Hope this helps.
