I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Currently taking synthroid and feel great. Im 40 yrs old. Had 5 children between ages 17-22. Ive been on paleo and daily exercise routine for over a year. My weight has stayed the same. But more importantly I want to have my body back. Can I have a mommy makeover as long as I continue my diet and exercise?
Answer: Hypothyroidism Hello and thank you for your question! At our practice, many of our patients have been diagnosed with either hyper/hypothyroidism. We typically request for clearances including a note from your endocrinologist and recent bloodwork reflecting thyroid levels. If your levels are within normal limits and under control, you would be an ideal candidate for surgery. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Answer: Mommy Make Over with Hypothyroidism Many of the patients in my practice have hypothyroidism and go on to have excellent results after mommy makeover. As long as your hypothyroidism is under control and you have the proper preoperative medical clearance and lab work, there is no reason you can not have a mommy makeover. Make sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who can help you plan your surgery to best meet your goals while keeping your safety a top priority. Best of luck!

Answer: Hypothyroidism not contra-indication As long as the hypothyroidism is under control and you are medically cleared for surgery, you could undergo a mommy makeover. I recommend doing the breasts first and then the abdominoplasty. For the breasts, I recommend The Bellesoma Method. This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed are maintained. After this, I recommend abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement if you are not planning future pregnancies. The mesh creates a more hourglass figure while compressing the abdominal wall, which results in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight. At the time of the tummy tuck, fat can be transferred to the breasts if additional volume is desired. Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Hypothyroidism and mommy makeover Hello and thank you for your question! Patients who have hypothyroidism that is under control with medication are able to undergo cosmetic surgical procedures as long as their are no other medical conditions that make it unsafe to undergo. I very frequently operate on patients who have hypothyroidism and haven't found it to be an issue. Hope this helps and please make sure you are being evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon.

Answer: Hypothyroidism wanting Mommy Makeover, is this possible? Many patients who have hypothyroidism safely undergo surgical procedures. If your hypothyroidism is under control and stable with replacement medication and your lab tests are within acceptable ranges, most patients shouldn't have an increased risk of complications. In a patient with hypothyroidism, it is important to have the plastic surgeon discuss the patient's medical status with the patient's endocrinologist and primary physician before surgery and get medical clearance before proceeding with the procedure.Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California
