Testosterone HRT & Hair Transplant (FUE) - Will the testosterone have an effect on the transplanted hair growth? Hi, I'm currently on HRT and looking to go ahead with a hair transplant. Please note: I understand once the transplanted hair has fully grown DHT/Testosterone doesn't really effect it, it only effects your original hair that wasn't transplanted. My question is: Will the testosterone effect the initial growth phase of implanted hair? Thanks for your time, hopefully someone can help.
Answer: Testosterone and hair transplant Excellent question! What you understand is exactly correct. The transplanted hair will not be affected by the testosterone you are using for HRT, even in its initial growth phase. The native hair, however, will be significantly affected by the testosterone. Good luck!

Answer: Testosterone and FUE Fantastic question. Testosterone will affect hairs prone to male pattern hair loss, NOT the hairs in the region used for donor hairs in a hair transplantation. However, if there is an over-aggressive harvest high on the back of the head and your pattern of hair loss extends into this region, then your transplanted hair may have accelerated injury. This, however, is unlikely. But do see an experienced hair doctor to ensure only the proper areas are used for harvest.

Answer: Transplants are typically immune to DHT / Testosterone but your other hair is not... Testosterone HRT can certainly accelerate male pattern hair loss due to its conversion to DHT Dihydrotestosterone (the deadly hormone to hair follicles), but it should NOT affect the initial growth phase of the transplanted hair. As long the the FUE grafts were harvested properly from an area of the Donor Scalp that is deemed to be relatively permanent by your ABHRS-certified surgeon, those hair follicles will produce hair for the long-term without being affected by DHT. If you are not on medical therapies like finasteride, you are mainly at risk for losing the non-transplanted hair more quickly if you are on HRT Testosterone. Sincerely, Dr. Alan J. Bauman, MD, ABHRS, FISHRS

Answer: Testosterone and HRT The use of Testosterone and HRT after a hair transplant will not impact the transplant but it may impact the native hair negatively
