High profile implants give more fullness in he upper pole of the breast, as if you are wearing a push-up bra. In my practice patients who want a more natural look will usually get moderate or anatomic implants. The volume or size depends on your breast measurements and cannot be determined from a photo. You should discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
It is very difficult without assessing you in person to know if the implant size and profile you mentioned will be a good size for you. Keep in mind that implant size selection not only depends on your personal preference, but it also depends on your unique measurements. There are various types of implants that can help you attain the look you are going for. A thorough consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will allow you to communicate what your desired result is and will inform you as to what is possible to achieve your goals. We have a device called the Vectra 3D imaging system that shows you what you will look like with any implant. Our patients are very happy with the choice of implant they make when using this system. To learn more about breast augmentation, you can read “A Comprehensive Guide to Breast Augmentation.
An in-person examination will help determine what implant size is best for you. You have normal breast anatomy to begin with, so a well-planned augmentation should yield an excellent cosmetic result in your case.
Based on the photos, it looks like the high profile 475 cc implants will fit you well. Of course, I am assuming that based on your breast dimensions, the implants are not too wide for you. Good luck!
Patients often think in terms of cup size when consideringaugmentation. Unfortunately, devices are sized in terms of milliliters (cc) ofvolume. This can lead to some confusion when sizing. Additionally, it isimportant to remember that cup size itself is not standardized with variationsfrom one manufacturer to another. Unfortunately, as many women can attest theircup size in an industry leader such as VS is not necessarily transferable toanother brand.Another point which is often under appreciated is that ofanatomy and starting point. Any implant will add volume to the volume which isalready present. The implant is additive. A particular volume will notnecessarily confer the same cup size to different patients (often times it willnot even confer the same cup size to different breasts in the sameindividual...remember they are "sisters" not"twins"). A general rule of thumb is that 125cc can represent somewherebetween 1/2 to a full cup size increase. Smaller volume differentials (25-50cc)are typically less consequential representing a volume change of less thana shot glass. However, I have found these numbers, at least anecdotally, to beof little help. Patients often present with notions/goals which do notcorrelate with these sorts of sterile volumetric assessments. When sizing patients, there are a number of useful toolsincluding:-3D imaging (has the added benefit of offering a volumetricanalysis of the pre-operative breast)-Breast sizers (rice bags)-Goal photosI also recommend that patients commit to a particular lookrather than a cup size. Once a patient settles on a look that pleases them theoverall cup size increase becomes less relevant. With regards to your particular question, 475 cc is a large implant. However, depending upon your measurements this may (or may not) be reasonable. Remember "natural" means staying within your unique dimensions and erring on the side of subtlety i.e. moderate + (your wish picture is not "natural" by these standards). The quickest way to achieve the dreaded "fake" look is to exceed these dimensions. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plasticsurgeon (ABPS).
The best way to pick the right breast implant size is with a combination of trying implant sizers on and 3-dimensional pre-op imaging. This combo will make sure that the size you are looking at will give you the look that you want. Good luck!
That really depends upon what you mean by "natural ". That means different things to different people. 475 can possibly get the results in size similar to your wish picture, but I would put more stock in trying on sizers at the time of consultation.Best of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA
Thank you for your question and pictures. I always am confused when people use the term "natural" to discuss results. To be perfectly honest, your pre-op photos appear "natural" to me, but that is obviously not what you are looking for, so you are by definition looking for something unnatural. What one person considers "natural" is different from another, so it is kind of like beauty....it's in the eye of the beholder. That being said, generally speaking, the higher the profile of the implant, the more "augmented" a breast appears to be. If you are set on a volume of 475 cc, then a high profile implant may be the right option to fit your frame (depending on the width of your breasts). If you are able to choose a lower profile implant (moderate-plus) with a similar volume and it still fits your chest, then this might provide a more balanced look.Hope this helps!
Hello and thank you for your question. You are a great candidatefor a breast augmentation. The size, profile, and shape of theimplant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wallmeasurements, and soft tissue quality. This decision shouldbe based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both youand your surgeon. This entire surgerycan be performed with a small incision technique. Make sure youspecifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who havehad this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find asurgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with aqualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Reish, M.D.Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
Dear toribelle,Determining the ideal breast size and matching that goal for the patient is the most difficult part of breast augmentation. It starts and ends with the patient. We have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements. Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If its too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match. Of all of my breast augmentation patients, everyone of them have been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am.
