Will steroid injections help with puckering/dimpling after breast augmentation? (Photos)

Question

Hello, I had a breast aug w/lift and tummy tuck in Jan and I'm hitting right at the 6 mths almost. I had 450 silicone placed. I have puckering only in my left breast, it's very noticeable. Last time I went to the doctor 3 months ago she did a steroid injection in the sight and said the next time she sees me she most likely will do it again if it still is there. I guess my overall question is have you seen this work it's waynout with time or what has been seen as a success? Thank you

You clearly have asymmetry and to review your initial photos would help. I think revision surgery is likely the only option for improval. The tethering may be the inferior muscle edge where it has attached to the implant capsule. Good Luck!

In my practice, scar contracture can be due to a suture, keloids, or tethering of the scar to deeper tissue. The good news is this: The implant will push on the scar and help remodel it. Your Plastic Surgeon is the best person to address these concerns, because if her examination shows that you have a Keloid, the steroid shot will help. I would allow some time to elapse between your initial observation of the problem. A good six months or so may be needed. Be sure to keep in touch with your surgeon. Too much advice might be counterproductive. If you read or hear something that you are concerned with, talk to your surgeon first before making a final decision.

I am not a big fan of steroid injections. Once injected there is no control and frequently a late issue is thinning of the overlying skin.This is my opinion.All the best,Talmage Raine MD

Most likely what you're seeing his scar contracture and usually the pressure of the breast implant will push this out.  I would not do further steroid injections because the steroids can dissolve tissue and create a depression.  A surgical revision to release the scar will be a more effective option.
