You have a small chin in both a vertical and horizontal dimension. Placing a chin implant over this small and short chin will increase the appearance of the existing fold below your lip and make your appearance less attractive. A sliding genioplasty procedure to lengthen and move your chin forward will add a significant amount balance to your lower face. it will provide you with a more defined and contoured jawline as well as improved appearance in frontal photos. I highly recommend this procedure for you. Good luck
Your chin could be made to have better projection. If you’re not sure you’re ready for surgery, but still want to improve and strengthen your chin and profile, I’d suggest augmenting your chin with Sculptra and/or Voluma. If you like your new look, you can make it permanent with a chin implant. Hope this helps.
Hello and thank-you for sharing your question and photos.Liposuction and Jplazty (cold plasma energy to tighten skin) of the chin and neck produces consistently great results for appropriate candidates. I think this would be a great option for you.I would suggest an in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon well-versed in all aspects of facial rejuvenation in your area to learn about your options..Good Luck
Your chin is indeed short. But the dimensions of its shortness is very important to understand as it is both horizontally and vertically short. Thus a standard chin implant will not produce a good result. You can use either a special vertical lengthening chin implant or a sliding bony genioplasty to bring the chin forward and down. Computer imaging will demonstrate the value of this type of can augmentation.
An osseous sliding genioplasty allows one to move the chin point in 3 dimensions. This may be a good option for you. It allows more versatility in movement and position than with a chin implant procedure. Your upper and lower jaw position (occlusion) is also important when evaluating the best procedure for you. From your pictures, it appears you have a shorter lower third of your facial profile. An osseous genioplasty could serve to lengthen the lower third of your face and help you achieve the balance you desire. A preoperative 3-D Vectra analysis may also be helpful during your consultation in order to define your exact aesthetic goals Seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon experienced with jaw surgery. Good luck!
The side profile photograph demonstrates a weak and recessive chin profile. The frontal photograph demonstrates a narrow chin. Chin implants are manufactured in a large array of sizes, thicknesses, and shapes. The mandible, chin and the implants are all three-dimensional structures, and therefore placement of chin implant augments the chin in all three dimensions. For many examples of chin implants and diagrams of the implants themselves, please see the link and the video below
Hello,By the "rule of thumb" approach to chin projection, your chin should touch an imaginary line dropped striaght down from your lips. Yours is behind that line, so based on that simple rule, you would benefit from an implant. However, that rule misses a lot of important and more subtle aspects of the procedure. You are actually not a good candidate. Chin implants do not fill the area just below your lip (the part of your chin that sits against the teeth) and you already have a depression there. If you add a chin implant, it will make that depression look very deep as the area below that depression gets pushed forward (the part of your chin that sits against bone). This would not be attractive. You might say it would be a masculine look, but really it just won't look good, even on a man. In your case, you could look at doing injectable fillers which can be placed in any part of the chin. A much more aggressive approach would be to have your whole jaw moved forward, but that is quite a big deal operation and requires orthodontics first. The only caveat to this is that a chin implant is a pretty small operation that is easily reversed. You could always have the surgery and if you don't like it, have the implant removed. I am not recommending that, but it is an option. Injectable fillers are going to be temporary under all circumstances and the big jaw surgery is not reversible. Best Regards,Dr. A
Yes, your chin is relatively small compared to your forehead and midface. A well chosen chin implant can bring a very nice aesthetic balance to your face.
Your lower jaw is underdeveloped genetically and lacks the projection you want. The chin itself is only one part/front of the lower jaw; so consult with an orthodontist and Maxillofacial surgeon for assessment and management. That is the proper approach long term. The chin shape you possess is not a good contour for 'adding' an implant.
Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. I'm confused why a surgeon would tell you otherwise because looking at the photo, your chin is very weak. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. When consulting with surgeons perhaps ask not only is your chin weak but do they have experience performing chin augmentation? The attached video shows how I determine whether the chin is weak. The second part of what that surgeon said is absolutely correct. The selection of the proper size, shape and thickness as well as the proper placement of the silastic chin implant are all "key" elements in creating a naturally looking chin. If too large of an implant is used in a woman, the chin can look relatively masculine. That's where experience, performing chin implant surgery, comes into play.Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. You have microgenia, or a congenitally small chin. A chin implant could be of benefit. This is typically placed either through the mouth, or a small incision under your chin, depending upon your surgeons training.See a surgeon who can perform computer imaging for you...
