I have a very small, round face and would prefer an elongated face shape (preferably oval or heart shaped) with a sharper chin. Would a chin implant be able to do both or would buccal fat removal in addition to an implant be more effective in achieving a thinner, larger face? Is there an alternate procedure that’d be better than either of these?
Answer: Round face and chin implant Thank you for the question and photos. Augmentation to your chin would create a more heart-shaped and oval appearance to your face. A silicone chin implant would provide some improvement but I prefer a genioplasty procedure (moving your own natural chin forward) for younger patients. With this procedure, the height of the chin can be increased as well. As far as the buccal fat reduction, it may not be necessary once the balance is improved with chin advancement. The genioplasty procedure is performed in the office under intravenous sedation and you can expect a 5-7 day recovery with some swelling. Good luck

Answer: Will a chin implant fix my stout face? Your chin could be made to have better projection. If you’re not sure you’re ready for surgery, but still want to improve and strengthen your chin and profile, I’d suggest augmenting your chin with Sculptra and/or Voluma. If you like your new look, you can make it permanent with a chin implant. Hope this helps.

Answer: Yes for chin implant Yes, it would most definitely. It would bring your face into more harmony and balance, elongating it and making it more oval and less round/ square. It would make your face look thinner so I don’t think you need any buccal fat pad removal. Best wishes.

Answer: Would a chin implant fix my stout, round face? Thank you for your question. From the appearance of your profile, a chin implant would help contour your face and jawline a bit, and would certainly change the shape of your face. However, there are other options to try before committing to a chin implant. I would recommend using facial fillers to augment your chin, and while it requires consistent injections, the advantage is that you can experiment with different volumes before undergoing surgery with an implant. That being said, keep two things in mind: one, you are SO YOUNG, and beautiful as is. Most of us hated our nose or chin or eyes when we were 18, and as we got older, realized that our unique features gave us character and reflected our heritage - all good things. Secondly, if you do decide to explore surgery or fillers, make sure that you consult a board certified facial plastic surgeon to ensure the best possible results. Good luck! - Ryan Chastant, MD

Answer: Vertical Chin Elongation Your assumption is correct in that a longer chin will help deround your face. This can be done through a specially designed vertical lengthening chin implant or an opening wedge bony genioplasty.
