Hello, I previously wore braces to fix my overbite for 10 years. Unfortunately it is still prominent. Should I renew braces treatment or would a bimaxillary protrusion or chin implant correction help me? Thank you.
Answer: Chi Implant to Improve Profile Thank you for your question. You have microgenia, or a congenitally small chin. A chin implant could be of benefit. This is typically placed either through the mouth, or a small incision under your chin, depending upon your surgeons training.See a surgeon who can perform computer imaging for you. That way you can see what is realistic based upon your anatomy.Best wishes.

Answer: Jaw surgery Based on your photos alone, you would benefit from further orthodontia to treat your dental overrate (maxillary teeth are outward projecting). In addition, you are a candidate for either a chin implant or osseous genioplasty. An osseous sliding genioplasty allows one to move the chin point in 3 dimensions. It allows more versatility in movement and position then with a chin implant procedure. Your upper and lower jaw position (occlusion) is also important when evaluating the best procedure for you. Seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon experienced with jaw surgery. Good luck!

Answer: Do I need a chin implant or jaw surgery to fix my protruding mouth? Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. From the photos, your chin is very weak. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. Braces will adjust the occlusion or how your upper and lower teeth meet. Hope this helps.
