Could fat transfer in lips help them look a bit more even? (Photo)

Question

I'm getting a facial fat transfer and my surgeon said it does not last in lips. The upper right side ( left in the pic) is a little less plump. Do you think a small amount of fat may have a fighting chance of making them even? Thank you in advance.

I would fully agree with your surgeon.  The rate of fat survival is very poor in the areas that see a lot of muscle activity.  Most of the fat transferred to the lips is likely to disappears within a month or two.Another reason not to use fat for correcting lip asymmetry is that fat volume often fluctuates with changes in your body weight.  In other words, if you gain weight the fat will grow.  Consider what happens  if fat is placed only on one side of your lip to correct asymmetry.  That side will grow bigger every time you gain a few pounds, making your lips even more asymmetrical.Best of luck with your procedure!Dr. Konstantin

In general, fat transfer to the lips is rather unpredictable with low retention rates.  I think you're a much better candidate for placement of fillers (e.g. Juvaderm) in your lips to help with the assymetry.  That would give your the results you want.  Good luck.

Ive seen good results with fat transfer for lips . In your case it doesn't do any harm to try since you are already getting fat transfer on your face.Worts that can happen, is it doesn't last . You always have the choice of using a filler ( like Hialuronic acid ) if fat doesn't work or lasts .best wishes
