Last Thursday night I checked my incision, I noticed a hole. My PS got me in the next morning and I was put on 2 antibiotics & bactroban ointment. It started looking better. Well today I have noticed the hole is getting bigger again and has a second hole next to it. I contacted my PS office again and I'm being told it is probably a spitting suture. Does anyone know by these pictures if that is what is going on? Is there anything else I can do besides what I am doing to heal this? I do have pus

Hello and thank you for the question. This is likely from a spitting suture as your surgeon has suggested. I would keep the area clean and avoid any strenuous activity/lifting, smoking (if you are a smoker), underwire bras or anything that places excess tension on the incision. You should see your surgeon for re-evaluation. Best,

Hello, thank you for your inquiry and photos, based on your photos looks like its a suture. I would recommend seeking your plastic surgeon for an in person evaluation, remain cleaning and keeping the area dry as much as possible and avoid lifting objects as much as possible. Best of luck

things being common, likely spitting suture(s), just needs to be removed and the area should heal without any problems, but you should see your surgeon or his nurse

so if you were closed in layers, then it certainly could be a spitting suture.  And this should get better with what you are doing.  If this is more concerning and your implant is exposed through that hole, you are looking at a more grave outcome where your implant will have to be removed.  I hope your surgeon closed your tissue in layers and this quickly heals.

you should have this evaluated by your plastic surgeon if not getting better.  Although it could be a spitting suture you should be followed closely to make sure there is nothing deeper causing the opening.  Do good wound care and avoid any irritation to the area (ie bra strap, rubbing).

like your surgeon suspects. The 'pus' is usually actually the stitch trying to dissolve - pus generally has a pretty distinctive smell and other signs of infection. At home wound care (dressings, not putting tension on it, not picking at it) as recommended by your surgeon should have it clear up nicely.Best of luck!

This is likely caused from a suture.  A visit to your surgeon is warranted so that the suture can be removed.  After that minimal home care will typically allow the area to heal nicely.
