CrossFit is unique in that it is such a hardcore workout. It is possible you still have some inflammation at the stitches which are holding your muscles together. This should get less with time, but if you find that after a workout things are painful, then yes, maybe hold off on core exercises for a few more weeks to give your muscles a rest. Talk to your surgeon to get the best advice.Best of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA
Thanks for your question. Most patients are cleared to resume strenuous activities 6 weeks after surgery. Since sit ups are concentrated in the abdominal area, I would recommend holding off on those. You need to express your concerns to your surgeon as he or she is familiar with your recovery.
Thank you for your question. Most patients are cleared to exercise six weeks following a tummy tuck, so it unusual to still have symptoms 4 months after surgery. It is best to have an in-person examination with your plastic surgeon for recommendations regarding what you should and should not be doing. Good luck with your recovery.
For complete healing of a an abdominoplasty, it takes 1 year. However, most patients can resume normal abdominal exercises at 6 months. At 4 months, one must listen to their body following exercise. A good rule of thumb is, if there is marked soreness following an exercise, decrease this activity. Cross fit is a very intense exercise and my recommendation would be to not do sit ups. Please followup with your doctor for any specific concerns.
The best resource for your question is your own surgeon, he or she knows you the best. For my patients, I allow heavy lifting type of physical activity within 6 weeks after surgery and cross fit certainly falls within this strenuous activity/heavy lifting category. When resuming this type of exercise I always recommend performing the regimen alone and not in a group environment. This eliminates the competitive atmosphere and allows you to work back into your regimen more gradually which should reduce soreness. When you are close to being never your previous physical condition then group cross fit environments should be fine. Be patient and listen to your body.
Jill,Congrats on having the procedure. It is common to have abdominal pain for months after a tummy tuck following an abdominal work out. I allow my patients to slowly resume work outs 4 weeks after surgery. You should follow up with your plastic surgeon but realize it might take several more months until your discomfort resolves.Best of luck and happy work outs.Dr. T
During a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, the surgeon will typically tighten the abdominal muscles by suturing them together -- these muscles may have separated due to child bearing or weight fluctuations. Most women are able to resume abdominal exercises, such as sit ups, about 3-4 months after surgery. I usually advise my patients that when they resume these activities, it may feel awkward and that they will feel much weaker than they did before surgery. It usually just takes time. The soreness that you are experience may just be normal weakness from muscles that haven't fully regained their strength. However, it you have any questions or concerns, please to ask your surgeon. Good luck!
Abdominoplasty surgery is not covered by insurance as it is not medically necessary. However, Panniculectomy surgery may be covered by insurance. Regards,
It's a great question. A tummy tuck incision should be placed as low as possible on the abdomen. This places the incision well below underwear and clothing. If there is a specific style of bikini that you like to wear, the incision lines can be tailored so that they lie under your bikini bottoms...
Thanks for your query.Spitting sutures are not uncommon in any big surgical wound like TT. However, I could see some slough ( white dead tissue) on your wound. It does not seem infected so no need for antibiotics. My advice is to go back to your surgeon and request for local debridement (...
