I was in a wreck that caused bursitis in my hip. My surgery is in 2 1/2 weeks, I've stopped my anti inflammatories for surgery. My orthopedic wants me to continue them after surgery. How soon can I start my anti inflammatories after breast augmentation?
Answer: Anti-inflammatory meds after surgery This is a question for your surgeon but I would say it is OK to resume them 1 week after surgery provided that everything is healing well.

Answer: Anti inflammatory drugs This question really should be directed to your plastic surgeon since he/she is the one most familiar with your case. Each plastic surgeon has their own criteria for resuming pre operative meds. Best to stick with the advice from your own surgeon.

You will need to follow the specific advice of your plastic surgeon according to that surgeons standard practice. That said, I allow my patients to take anti-inflammatory medications after the third day post breast augmentation if there is no significant bruising or evidence of bleeding.

Answer: Anti iflammatory meds and breasts augmentation Dear Akr, As you can see from the previous comments, almost every doctor has a different policy in regard to anti inflammatory medication. Your best approach should be to contact your surgeon and ask him about it. If you trust him to do your surgery, you should trust him with this issue. As for my policy, it is based on patient safety and reduction of complication. Anti iflammatory medication can increase bleeding time ( not for every one ) , which can cause hematoma. Hematomas, even when evacuated can cause severe capsule contracture which might require additional surgery and can compromise the end result . So, I like to be extremely safe in that regard and recommend to my patients to stop all anti iflammatory medication 2 week before surgery and 2 weeks after surger. As a matter of fact, my patients receive a diet sheet to avoid within the same time frame. For example , no tomatoes, because they have in them Salicilates ( aspirin ). "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure". Tylanol is fine even though it might not be as efficient as anti iflammatories. Speedy recovery and best of luck, Dr Widder
