I am considering a fat reduction with Vanquish. I have vitiligo on hands, face, legs and genitals. Could the treatment cause a spread in vitiligo?

Good afternoon and thank you for your question! Vitiligo is an auto-immune disorder that causes loss of pigment in the skin and it has no real cure. With that being said, receiving Vanquish treatments should not interrupt/spread vitiligo. However, it is likely that you will eventually lose pigment in other areas of the body in addition to the areas that have already been effected. The Vanquish machine does not touch skin, rather it disrupts fatty cells through selective heating of the adipose tissue. Best of luck! For more information please feel free to visit our website!

Hi,Vanquish is field radiofrequency to heat fat cells and destroy them.  It is color independent and should not affect pigment cells.  This is why Vanquish is safely used on all skin types.  Vitiligo can wax and wane since it is an auto-immune disease attacking the pigment cells.  Vitiligo varies in severity in each patient but should not be affected by radiofrequency.Warmly,Dr. Liu
